Style of TherapyWhile my orientation is grounded in psychoanalytic and Jungian theory and practice, I use a variety of therapeutic techniques, depending on each person's needs. I see therapy or counseling as collaborative work between my clients and me.
Collaborative Approach In therapy, we will work together to find what works best for you, which usually becomes gaining a balance between finding ways to alleviate or manage symptoms (such as symptoms of depression and anxiety) but also working to address what’s underlying the symptoms (stress, family of origin, relationships, biological factors, etc.). Some people would like to understand their feelings and behaviors in a deeper way. This can be done in therapy by talking about how experiences from the past are influencing your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Dream work is another way to deepen your understanding of yourself as well as other expressions of unconscious thoughts or emotions such as creativity (drawing, painting, creative writing, etc.). Role as a Therapist I view my role as a therapist or counselor is to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, assist you in making changes in your life, and ultimately help you heal and grow in a substantial and meaningful way. . |
