Psychoanalytic PsychotherapyIn my practice, I incorporate psychoanalytic as well as Jungian theory and practice. Analytic work is a type of depth psychology that seeks to understand how past experiences shape our thoughts and feelings in an unconscious way. Jungian psychotherapy and psychoanalytic psychology explore how these thoughts and feelings affect our lives and relationships in ways in which we are not fully aware. In depth psychotherapy, incorporating dream interpretation and artwork can be ways to work through these feelings as well as gain a deeper understanding of ourselves. Some people are drawn to Jungian or psychoanalytic psychotherapy as a way of knowing themselves and understanding their problems and relationships in a deeper, more meaningful way. Victor Frankl, a psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor, said, "In some ways suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning." Jungian psychology seeks to find meaning in suffering and transform painful experiences into healing. I have additional training as an analytic training candidate with the Inter-regional Society of Jungian Analysts and a former board member of the Austin Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology.
